What do Carousel Bakery visitors reviews this place?
I know a lot of people prefer Uno Mustachio’s Veal Parmigiana but I love Carousel’s amazing Italian Veal Parmigiana sandwich.
Aside from being cheaper (than Uno’s), the sandwich is loaded with the right amount of meat sauce and toppings. It starts with a soft ciabatta bread and nestled inside is a sliced veal cutlet, breaded and crispy loaded with rich tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella cheese. One bite and your mouth is hit all at once with a sweet, savoury, umami flavour. I tried their other sandwiches but I think the veal sandwich is the one worth trying.
Service albeit unfriendly is fast as they have lots of staff to help you.
Our first stop was the Carousel Bakery. They introduced us to the iconic peameal bacon sandwich. The bread, fresh and flavorful, was a testament to quality craftsmanship. While the peameal bacon leaned slightly towards the salty side, its nice flavour profile still made it a satisfying choice. The combination of the delectable bread and the distinct taste of the bacon set a positive tone for the rest of our culinary adventure!
Hitting up St. Lawrence Market, I’m always hoping to snag a snack that feels worth the splurge, given the place is always buzzing and prices are on the higher side. But, my stop at Carousel Bakery was a letdown. Despite the walls plastered with rave reviews from newspapers and magazines that now feel like ancient history, my pick of a beef empanada for around $10 didn’t hit the spot. They zapped it in the microwave until it was boiling hot – which wasn’t cool at all. It went from scorching to a disappointing texture: dry, tough, and nowhere near crispy. Plus, the beef was as bland as anything. And yep, it’s cash only here, which just adds to the hassle. For a spot in such a famed market, Carousel Bakery really missed the mark for me.
