About this restaurants :
This is THE Chinese bakery to go to. It is a tiny place that has everything, and has been in Chinatown since forever. The buns are tasty and have lots of filling. The cakes are amazing… not too sweet and beautifully decorated. I buy everyone’s birthday cake from here. All my friends love this place. One of my friends drives down from Birmingham to come here for their marble cake. He said he’s addicted. I have tried all the bakeries in Chinatown and this one is simply the best.
I get their Char Sui buns every time I come to china town. The bun is soft and full of stuffing inside, not like other shops that put little stuffing in. The best one I have tried. Love Pandan cake too.
The food is mid. Ranges from tasteless to mild taste. Best ones are marble and yam role cakes. Nothing particularly special. Decent selection. The egg yolk lotus bean pastry thing was incredibly dry. The cakes however, are nice although a little bland. Also a £10 minimum spend if you want to use card.
I was a bit nervous because the only wedding cake styles I had seen previously were not the style we were after, but my fiance and I loved this cake shop and really wanted a pandan and chocolate cake for our wedding. We showed them photos of the style we were after and the designer went so far above and beyond our expectations. We received so many compliments about our beautiful cake and everyone was saying how unique and cool it was. I can’t thank the people at Golden Gate Cake shop enough for such a delicious and beautiful cake!
The shop itself does not say much until you go inside. It is a small shop that can get busy within minutes. There are quite a big variety of pastries that I have never seen before anywhere else. It took a bit of time to look at all of them and decide what to buy. You have to put your pastry onto a small plastic tray and take it to the cashier who puts them in paper bags. Only for take away there is no table inside or outside.
B9t of downside that Only cash unless you pay more than 10£. Everything I bought was very nice I liked them a lot so I will go back next time as well. I bought chicken curry bun, pork bun and coconut pastry kind of rolls sweet. I recommend to visit it. It is cheap as well.
