What do Lode Pies & Pastries Surry Hills visitors reviews this place?
When I arrived at 11 am, almost all the pies were gone. I just got second last wagyu and mushroom pie, but there were still plenty of other pastries available. The croissant was okay. If it had more crunch and butter, it might be better. The wagyu and mushroom pie was very delicious. The pie dough was very crunchy, and the layers of pie were excellent. I really wanted to order another savory pie, but they were already sold out.
Once I got there, the place was a small and comfy space with little seating available. Unlucky enough for us, once I arrived, the place was already packed and had no available seats, that’s why I opted to have my pastries for take-away. Their pastries and pies weren’t cheap that’s for sure. It was definitely on the higher side compared to other pastry/cafes in the Surry Hills. What I got was the Yuzu Tart and the Pain au Chocolat. And when a pastry shops offers a Pain au Chocolat, you order that Pain hahaha! Not only is it a guilty pleasure decision but also because it’s a good basis on how serious a pastry shop is when it comes to it’s pastry program. The Yuzu Tart was delicious. The perfect tanginess and sweetness. The Pain au Chocolat was not bad. The layers of the Puff was prominent and that shattering top of the Pain was a nice added touch. But it doesnt have that buttery, savoury flavor when eating a really good puff.
Overall, it was good experience. Enough for me to say that it’s a must-try when visiting the CBD? I think i need to actually dine in their place and try their other pastries and pies.
