What do Kate’s visitors reviews this place?
My wife and I stopped off here for breakfast as a little treat after seeing the 12 week scan of our baby. Shop is very small but it was cute and creative with a minimalistic vibe. It’s shared seating so which I quite liked, so don’t be surprised to be sitting next to a stranger. It’s an open kitchen which is always great and they use as much local produce as possible. The lady that served us (Kate) was pleasant. The selection of food items isn’t vast which is my preference because you get a sense of quality over quantity. They also have seasonal options. I also get the impression that the menu is always adapting but keeps its favourites. They have a good drinks selection. We both got hot chocolates which were brilliant. In fact one of the best I’ve ever had. For food I opted for the granola which was lovely. We shared the sausage roll which came with a curried chutney. The pastry was flaky and the filling was tasty. The added chutney was delicious! I am usually not a fan of coffee but Kate recommended the coffee and walnut cake so I got it. I am glad I did because it was amazing! The cake had perfect texture and tasted amazing. Not too overpowering with coffee, just right. Finally, my wife got a cookie which was delicious.
Overall, we throughly enjoyed our time at Kate’s. Great location, couldn’t fault it, even the toilet I liked. We’ll 100% be back.
P.S. Since the shop is very small and quite popular there may not be available seating but they do takeaway so all good. There is also limited seating outside.

Seriously tasty food, good coffee and a really lovely atmosphere to hang out in.
Update:
Visited multiple times on our last trip to Edinburgh and we’ve now decided this is our favourite cafe in the whole of Edinburgh, and it’s just round the corner from our flat!
The first time it was packed inside and straight away Kate pulled out an extra table and chairs for us and we could settle in for breakfast with our books. Then the second we picked up some amazing coffee and homemade rhubarb and apple jam for some friends.
Amazing baking and coffee and the nicest place to sit with a book and read.
So glad I found this wee gem of a place. Been there a couple of times, and I can testify that both the savoury and sweet items are absolutely delicious. Love the wild garlic + cheese scone, the fennel + pork sausage roll, the homemade drinks, the rhubarb muffins… They have lovely seasonal items too! The interior is both cozy and welcoming. Love the selection of books provided at each table. Kate and her staff/colleagues are really friendly. Definitely give Kate’s a visit if you’re in the area!
Cozy café with delicious homemade baked goods, lovely pottery and wood furniture. Nice flower arrangements and relaxing background music, not intrusive. Recommend the plain but delicious scones and dark chocolate oaty cookies. Veggie and non-veggie options available. Only limited indoor seating, but it is possibile to enjoy a coffee sitting on the bench outside.
A lovely place with excellent coffee! The interior is so nice and warm, it’s a pleasure to be in! Very Instagrammable too 🙂
