This establishment serves food like Little House on the Prairie… FAMILY STYLE. So if more than one, it will be like, “Can you please pass the taters???” 😆
First & foremost, love the location and plenty of parking.
Walked in through outdoor entrance which is a very large patio with tables and benches to sit. Very nice with stone and tile leading the way.
The humongous (yes, I used that word) double steele doors moves you into a long hallway also called the chute.
Tables and chairs are heavy and made of wood. Everything rustic and warm. Slightly dark (you know I’m old) yet coukd be romantic in a urban cowboy way.
Server (10): Kae was outstanding… Very bubbley and outgoing. She always showed concern for anything and everything I needed and was very informative and attentive.
Now onto the FOOD:
(Mostly Everything Made to Oder)
Biscuits (9): These babies were warm and super soft… With soft butter and honey, it hit the spot.
Salad (7): was good with a homemade sweet tangy dressing, but it didn’t have anything else but just lettuce. Left 75% on the plate.
Roasted Smoked Leg (8): Skin was tasty with their in-house seasoning (apparently top secret) and meat was moist. On the very small side for $3, but at least I was able to try a piece.
Fried Chicken (7 overall): Now before I proceed, I don’t ever order white meat due to the reasons below… They only sell half Chickens (because this is how they are purchased)… Kind of irritating and I know why. For the same reasons I don’t order them. They typically are dry. I am presuming most will not order white meat either hence needing to sell it as a half chicken. I prefer Thighs 99% of the time. Yet, I was sold a roasted Smoked Leg solo… Hmm. If they sold quarter pieces, that would be nice. Also, sides should be sold a la carte, but everything for $19, is not such a bad deal.
So here we go:
The Skin was crunchy and tasty.
Leg (9.5): This piece was shockingly the best of everything of the night. It was tender, juicy, airy, and light. Entire Leg was phenomenal! Why this was the best piece and not the thigh is beyond me.
Thigh (8): This piece was moist, but it didn’t taste like the leg. Some areas were slightly dry.
Breast (5): This of course was the largest piece. The meat was dense. The skin was slightly well-done, still good but the meat on this piece was 85% dry tasting. I didn’t finish this piece. I left about 50% on the plate.
Wing (1): Very small, almost no meat on the bone, only the skin was barely worth it.
Now the Sides:
Corn (8): They were warm and sweet, very tasty. Added pepper and they did not last. I inhaled these!
Greens (6): These are slightly charred and cooked with bacon grease. There wasn’t enough taste to them. They were cooked well. But the seasoning was lacking. Left 60% in the bowl.
Mashed Potatoes (3): Barely lukewarm, tasted dense and store bought. I’m used to whipped, airy, creamy, and buttery potatoes… These were the opposite. Left 85% on the table.
Gravy (5) Also was barely lukewarm. These are made with chicken grease but there wasn’t enough seasoning. Left 90% on the table.
Jalapeno (4): was hard and was an okay taste…
La Costeña Jalapenos are some of the best!
Unsweet Tea (8): was fresh and didn’t taste brewery. Splenda and Lemons enhances it.
Overall, it was a decent experience, not sure if I could go back considering they don’t sell chicken by the piece or quarter. Not to mention, the chicken was inconsist.
Maybe the Chicken Fried Steak could be something to consider. I didn’t even know what the desserts were… Ugh!
I may try their sister company Sweetie Pie’s Ribeyes instead.
On the Fence,
