What do Belle’s Chicken Dinner House visitors reviews this place?
Hands down the best chicken fried steak I have had in a long time. Greens beans seasoned well, I hate creamed corn, but they had a whole kernel in house creamed corn that was amazing. Mashes potatoes were buttery. It was so delicious. Amy our server explained to us that everything came out as family style so they bring a stack of plates, sides are refillable unlimited as long as you eat it there you can not take it to go. This place is on point. Wish I would have gotten pics of the food.
As the road trip continued, Belle’s Chicken Dinner House appeared on the radar and we’re glad that it did. The menu is straight forward: you choose a main dish (fried chicken, chicken tenders, baked chicken, chicken fried chicken (think of schnitzel made of chicken with thicker outer layer) or even fried catfish and then you get a choice of sides for $18.99 (plus tax and tip). We chose green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy for our sides. What’s more, sitting there waiting for our to-go order, I couldn’t help smelling the freshly baked bread rolls that were served to everyone dining there. It was so exciting to find a couple of the rolls in our to-go bag once we opened it! The food was very filling, hearty. The creamed corn and bread rolls were standouts and the chicken itself crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. As for the atmosphere, it’s a bit dark inside with dim lighting. When you do look at the walls, which you should, you’ll have a laugh – there are cutouts of famous characters with quotes slightly altered in good humor. There were also country classics from George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks n Dunn and even Waylon Jennings playing overhead that added to the overall ambience – its a roadside diner and it does it very well! And finally the service could not have been nicer. A first timer at Belle’s, the friendly waitress explained the options and answered all my questions including about the incredibly delicious smelling bread rolls. The wait was probably 15 to 20 minutes, which was fine for us knowing that it is not a fast food joint. All around solid choice when you’re in Abilene. Highly recommend!!
This was the BEST tasting and most fun family dinner we have had in ages!! The service was fantastic! I can’t remember our servers name, but she said she’d recently had a baby, and she was wonderful, and she will be a great momma! She made our day and was so friendly and helpful! This was our first time coming in, so we had no idea what to do, but she made suggestions and helped us figure everything out. This will be a repeat for us and our family and friends 🧡
My fiancé and I stopped on the way to Dallas and the only reason I am giving this place 2 stars is for the service. They definitely have southern hospitality. Outside of that, the food is not that great or worth it! I got the chicken fried steak and my fiancé got the fried chicken and it was way below average in our eyes. It lacked any seasoning and just tasted bland. The mashed potatoes were average, tasting like boxed mashed potatoes, and the green beans also lacked any flavor. The only thing I found appetizing was the creamed sweet corn which in part is due to the corn itself being sweet. Lastly, we payed $45 (chicken each costing $20) and not only could you not pack the sides but we couldn’t get basic styrofoam to-go boxes. I had to beg for a plastic plate to put the chicken in. Instead they have us grocery store plastic bags to put the cooked fried chicken in (quite unsanitary if you ask me). There are far more better, seasoned, sanitary and inexpensive fried chicken places than this one so I don’t anticipate ever returning.
The his is a great place for family style dinners. Everyone on the wait staff was friendly and attentive. I had the fried catfish and my wife had the baked chicken. Both were delicious and flavorful. The bowls of sides kept coming until we couldn’t eat any more.
