White Manna

15 long years. I finally tried White Manna.

White Manna is one of the teeniest hamburger spots you’ll find anywhere! Very appropriately, they specialize in small burger sliders, similar to White Castle but with higher quality ingredients.

This renowned spot has been on my to-visit list for 15 years, but the thought of driving to Hackensack (from Philly) has been even more unappealing for 15 years. Even for miniature cheeseburgers.

There’s just one single grill and a handful of counter seats.

I ordered in advance online and pickup went super smooth.

I tried both the single and double cheeseburger sliders. As usual, the double is superior! Fries were crinkly and good!

Overall, I found the food to be pretty good but not necessarily exceptional or worth a special road trip. I expected a little more flavor for such a caloric indulgence. The overall ambiance of the experience was more memorable to me than the food itself. That said, I wouldn’t hesitate to go back if I was ever back in the area. It’s definitely a fun experience from a place with decades of history!

A staple in the community and popular amongst hamburger lovers, this small busy establishment is known for their sliders.

Served on a potato roll, onions and cheese with a side of pickles, one can eat about 4 sliders in a sitting while watching the mayhem of customers that just keep flocking in. I also ordered a side of fries (crispy crinkle cut) with a fountain coke.

Upon arrival you will meet the most important person in the facility, the griller. Tell him/her your burger order. There is another person taking your drink order and lastly a person in charge of fries. The fry lady was who charged my order.

Facility takes cash and card along with pick up orders.

This is the place! If you want to experience a White Castle burger done right. Almost felt as if you travel in time to 1956. Even the prices feel according with that, “kinda”.
A little chaotic in the way they serve you and take your order, but it is worth it.
The lady who makes the burgers is like a small Energizer Bunny, she keeps going and going! And people keep coming and coming.
The burgers are done to the right point, juicy, nice, and hot. Get them with onions, ketchup, and pickles in the side. This burger will make you smile.
The fries are done at the moment you order, they are hot, crispy outside, and soft inside.
Definitively a place to come back, but is better to order to go, or to order in advance to avoid the chaos.

Old fashioned burger joint. I’ve been waiting to come here because I heard how good the burgers were. The customer service was eh, not awful, but could be better.
The burger overall was good, but imo the patty needed some salt/pepper to bring out the flavor. It was also pretty greasy.

The meat is tender and good and they use a Martin’s potato roll which is good. It reminds me of a White Castle Burger but lacking a little flavor, most of the flavor comes from the cheese.
Overall the cheeseburger was a 7/10, could be higher if there was seasoning.

Finally come to the legendary White Manna. Efficient order process, one of the worst traffic scenes, also you might have the most challenging parking experience.
Maybe not for the plant-based but definitely a must-have for every beef burger lover.
