What do Aux Anciens Canadiens visitors reviews this place?
We came here after a long walk in the city. It was freezing and wet outside and one could feel cozy and warm immediately walking inside this little authentic house. I got exceptional food and service for what I paid. I enjoyed this creamy fish fillet a lot, the stewed vegetables inside were well seasoned and the tenderness was just right. Hope I will bring my parents here someday!
It was an interesting restaurant, and we popped in to be taken to quaint styled interiors. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food arrived on time and delicious. Escargot was nice but a bit overcooked for me. The open meat pie was nicely done and balanced. My partner’s Bison pie was interesting. The poutine was nice and the wine was decent. The pudding, Maple syrup pie tasted great, and so was my partner’s Apple pie. We chose the set menu, and it was fairly priced. Overall, the experience was good apart from a little indigestion I experienced after.
This is an awesome place! We’ve been here twice (pictured is our second time), and we love it. It’s such a unique place with a lot of history, and the food is excellent! The set meal is great value, and we’re always so full by the end. We got to try so many dishes and get a peek at French-Canadian cuisine. Strongly recommend! 🙂
Value for money!!! Spending around CAD50 then you could have a set of French meal including a glass of house wine. Many choices for customers. The appetizer I chose-Wild Meat Cretons was full of meat, pork if I didn’t remember wrongly. I liked the taste but couldn’t have too much; then the accompanying sauce and the side dish(I guessed it was something like pickles) did a nice touch—lightened the grease. About the main dish, it was interesting! The puff pastry wrapped with salmon so it was crispy outside and soft inside. Nice together and seasoning. The sauerkraut also made the whole dish not too greasy.
As for the dessert, I was not a fan of it since it was too sweet🤣
Anyway, I really enjoyed my food and the atmosphere here.

Yum! We found this place online because it’s a traditional Canadian food and it did not disappoint. Their pre-fix dinner special allows for wine or beer, soup or an appetizer, a main entree and dessert. We ordered the soup of the day (potato and leek soup) and the baked beans as an appetizer, the elk, bison and deer tenderloins and the beef Wellington as entrees, and chocolate pie and the poor man’s pudding for dessert. We also asked the waiter for bread with butter. He was very thorough in explaining all the dishes when he served them and was very attentive.
