bills lives up to the hype 1000% and there is a reason why it’s a breakfast and brunch institution in Sydney – the food is bloody good and the vibes are just right.
I had the ricotta hot cakes because it’s their signature dish and it’s listed as one of the ‘19 must try dishes in Sydney’. The are simply superb – the fluffiest pancakes ever and the taste is spot on, not too sweet and the banana is the perfect companion.
The service is perfect and it’s just a really great chill out vibe – the booth seat is comfy. Love it 👏

📝 Had a lunch here that I won’t necessarily remember. Neither food nor service impressed positively: for example, we haven’t seen a single smile among the people that attended us for the whole time we spent there. The bottom line is I didn’t leave the place thinking I made a great choice to have lunch there.

🍴 I ordered their simplest salad on the menu, which had fresh ingredients but was seasoned in a way I didn’t particularly like.

📍 The place itself was relatively pretty and located on the main street in Surry Hills, which was rather convenient. It seemed pretty busy so I assume most people end up having a better experience than I did.

A classy establishment with a great atmosphere. We went there for breakfast and it was great. The huge front windows bring so much light into the place, but the mood lighting, mirrors and general decor add elegance and charm.

The corn fritters and the poached eggs were delicious, as well as the coffee was. I was very disappointed that the menu was quite sparse. I had been craving eggs Benedict and that wasn’t even on the menu.

The staff were all delightful and perky and I liked the style of the bathrooms too: again, graced with a classy design. Prices were not cheap but not ridiculous either.

Can’t get enough of the ricotta hotcake, I also love the sweet corn fritters, goes so well with the avocado salsa. I wish they open a branch on the North Shore near the train line, then I could visit every weekend! The only negative part of this place is the coffee, I find it too bitter, but that is just personal taste preference.

Apparently when you can’t mention Brunch without Bills. A Sydney institution is something that can not be missed. Don’t be surprised if you have to wait in line if you’re a late riser – the food may taste better when you’re hungrier. We ordered the fritters, full aussie, rosti and of course the ricotta pancakes. It was
synonymous around the table that the food was exactly what you had expected it to be. No distinctive twist or surprises, unique cooking methods or the like; just brunch done well. My only recommendation is to check your expectations on the pancakes. Ours came out quite dry & powdery – only solved by adding more syrup (risks making it too sweet).
