Elephant Hill

We had a great tasting at Elephant Hill. Beautiful location, views, and delicious wines. But the star of the day was Ella who led our tasting. She made it an experience. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The food is likely delicious too but we can’t vouch for it. They also have great boxes for your wine to take home. Would highly recommend a stop at this gorgeous winery!

Our tasting experience here was the very best of our travels in New Zealand. Not only did we find several wines to take home with us, but the pacing and service (including a couple extra wines added to compare to ones we were enjoying) were excellent. Highly recommend!

My partner and I visited elephant Hill today. We were one of two groups as it was earlier in the afternoon. We were given a disjointed explanation of how the tastings worked as the phone kept ringing which is fine. However, we were barely spoken to after that. Special shout out to the owners son on his second day. He was very polite and served us better than the two senior staff members and he was maybe 12. We felt ignored and like a second thought whilst a staff member happily served and chatted to the older couple next to us. Our food came out after theirs (I’ll say that it was only by a couple of minutes but we ordered the exact same thing prior to them arriving and then they received the food first). The food was good, the platter was very nice and the goats cheese to die for. I’m not sure what the reason for their avoidance of us was. Maybe we are young so they assumed we might not have money I don’t know but for 20 years of this winery running (overheard this from the conversation they were having with the table next to us) I really would have expected better. I love wineries, they’re special places and we were really disappointed with the service here. Great for older people that they feel more comfortable talking to.

Elephant Hill is a stunning venue, with great wine. We are local, so visit for a drink on the deck reasonably often. Recently we tried the platters, and were very disappointed. They were well overpriced for the quantities of food. We are spoilt for options in HB now, sadly won’t be ordering food here again.

This winery was so beautifully designed with palm trees greeting us as we drove to the entrace. We didn’t book any wine tasting reservation but the lady working there (sorry we forgot your name😅) fit us. She is very knowledgeable about wines, and can tell that she is passionate about her job. We spent about 2-hours-ish trying out quite a few glasses more wines as we are the only customers for the day. She made us very comfortable and easy to talk to. Glad to have found this winery and hope they will open up their restaurant again!
