Hillside Kitchen

Our recent visit to Hillside Kitchen in Wellington left us thoroughly impressed. We were warmly welcomed, even though we arrived early, and started off with delicious drinks and amazing starters, the restaurant offers only set menus, no individual dishes. Since all courses are exceptional, why would you want to miss out on any of them? There’s no reason for that.

The menu kicked off with bread, and especially as someone hailing from a country known for its rich bread tradition, Hillside’s homemade sourdough bread deserves special recognition and hearty recommendation. Baked to perfection, with a crust that crackles just right and a tender, tangy crumb, is was wonderful. The sourdough culture is 17 years old – truly delightful! But the bread is just the beginning of the culinary journey at Hillside. Their dishes, centered around vegetables either fresh or thoughtfully preserved, elevate vegetarian cuisine to new heights. From pickled vegetables to fermented delights, Hillside Kitchen showcases the incredible potential of plant-based fare.

Absolutely lived up to the hype, my partner and I had a delightful evening. Wonderful, friendly service & delicious and surprising food which we were still discussing for hours after.

We had the full vegan menu and while I enjoy the various other vegan restaurants around town, it was an absolute delight to have such a large variety of creative, inspiring & carefully crafted vegan food served to us. It really sets Hillside apart as an experience rather than ‘just’ eating out. Special shout out to all the super friendly staff 🙂

We just had the best night out for our anniversary and needed to review immediately. The atmosphere, staff and food were all amazing and the non alcoholic beverage match exceeded expectations tenfold. The sustainability aspect was a selling point when booking and was clearly thought out and well executed throughout the menu. Favourite dining experience in Wellington so far. Vibe check on point and have no doubts we will be back again soon. Also popcorn anniversary gift as we left was an absolute treat.

Amazing! Stop reading this and go make a reservation. I went in early December and was told there will be a completely different menu in January. So over all the cooking techniques are very interesting, beautiful, and delicious. The cheese course was excellentand I loved the chocolate! I will gladly go again.
