What do Koloman visitors reviews this place?
However, the signature chicken dish for two people was dry. Tough to give this place high ratings if the signature dish is below average. We also ordered the salmon as medium rare and it came a bit overcooked. The host up front was friendly but a bit of a mess. When we checked in for our reservation 10 minutes early, she asked us to wait because the tables weren’t ready with the place settings. However, our reservation was at 10:00 p.m. and there were plenty of open tables with table settings. It was not very busy. When we asked 15 minutes later she had forgotten we checked in and put us at a table – place setting had already been there when we first checked in. The only thing she seemed to accomplish was to make the dining room staff work later given it appeared, she was slowing down the 10:00 p.m. reservations for everyone.
Overall, I would come back again but probably not a place I would seek out.
I went through a week of just eating a lot of fancy lunches solo. This day I hit up Koloman as I was curious about their prefixe for awhile.
I added the warm pumpkin focaccia and yeah – that was tasty. Definitely rubbed in plenty of oil but it was nicely crispy on the outside but oh so fluffy on the inside. That butter was something else too.
For the selections I started with the tartare. Typical french preparation, not too eggy or rich. Adequate acidity and very flavorful.
Schnitzel. I wanted to like this a bit more but it was still good. The schnitzel coating was quite thin but maybe the way it was plated on top of each other – it kind of steamed out the coating and it just fell off. I liked the warm potato salad that accompanied it. I still am not a fan of lingonberry but I can appreciate it.
Strudle. Very thin layers, tasty but maybe too much powdered sugar for my preference.
Overall – I liked the food enough that Id’ be back and maybe try some other things on the menu. Standout for me on this meal though? Focaccia, tartare.
I’m here to talk about the bar service. We got there early to enjoy the “Martini Hour”. Not only did the bartender not even give us the martini hour menu, and we had to ask for it, but we didn’t get our drinks until about 10-15 mins in. I understand you make more money by having us order of the regular menu but we were going to sit for dinner anyway.. Then the bartender messed up our drinks and seemed annoyed that we even said something. We also had to ask for waters, napkins, new utensils etc..
The drinks were good but the service was extremely slow. They ran out of oysters early into the night. We ordered 2 dozen oysters for a group of 4 which doesn’t seem ridiculous at all but then our waitress at our table later made a comment about how the kitchen was talking about how we were the folks at the bar who ordered “all those oysters”.
I just didn’t like anyone’s attitude here and we have recommended this restaurants to SO many people visiting NYC. We’ll unfortunately no longer be doing so. It’s a shame because the food & atmosphere is great.
