What do Martine’s Restaurant and Winebar visitors reviews this place?
We were in town on a very busy Saturday evening as part of a large tour group, and had no reservations. We were attracted to the “early dinner special advertisement”, and were able to walk in and dine at 6PM. My wife and I both opted for the goat cheese salad starter and Hake for main course. The food was well plated and quite delicious. Wine selection was adequate, and the service was very good. Highly recommended!
Sat down and waited a while to place drink order. Very cramped seating, especially if you’re anyway larger. My partner enjoyed his liver starter and chicken main course, but my salmon fishcake was mediocre at best.
Lovely quiet upstairs area . Staff are very friendly and customer orientated. Food is top quality and I would highly recommend the steak
Mediocre. This place has been on my bucket list for a while and I was looking forward to dining here. The interior decor is dated and the wall paper was quite literally peeling off of the wall in some spots. I think if you’re going to charge higher end prices for food the interior does need to also reflect this. Free bread for the table is always a nice touch however the plates of bread are left sitting on a ledge by the doorway- very unhygienic as anyone passing the door can touch it. Our table was upstairs and rather cramped, I do think it would’ve been better to remove two tables upstairs because our waitress was pressed against the wall trying to pass the table beside us to serve our table. I felt bad for her.
We ordered our drinks… 30 minutes wait time. Not impressed by the long waits. Food, 1 hour wait time. Again, not impressed. I ordered a steak, well done and unfortunately it was medium. I showed the waitress the inside of my pink steak and said “look it’s fine I’ll eat it it because I’m starving but just to note it”. When paying the bill I always did say this to the manager and his reaction was kind of funny, insisting that I should have sent it back. However, if I ask for something to be cooked a certain way that’s what I expect. I don’t like sending food back and especially after a long wait time I wasn’t going to do that.
Food was good, nothing amazing but to be honest I do think this place could thrive if the service was better. I don’t think it’s a fault of the waitress but she just seemed nervous and not adjusted. She was carrying one plate at a time, I just think with a days training she could be shown how to properly carry plates. It’s little details like these which make an experience top notch. She was a lovely waitress just not well trained.
There’s room to improve here.

Excellent place! This was an incredible experience in the heart of Galway. We had a two-night stay in the city and wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner and the place left us stunned! Highly recommend the Cream of Parsnip soup or Chicken Patè for starters, and the salmon dish or Martines Burger for mains. The young gentleman who served us gave us an amazing experience – professional and educated about the menu and their offers. 10/10 would recommend.
