Matt The Thresher

The place is really nice but maybe tries to push a bit too much the fact that some international stars have had dinner there.

The food is good but I didn’t find it mind-blowing.

Scallops were good but they contained bacon and one had a bed of black pudding, which is always an easy way to make any food tastier. I am not pescatarian but the other person eating with me was.

I am told that the fish & chips was delicious as it was not greasy. Personally I found it not particularly tasty. But also, I know that I’m not usually a great fan of fish&chips, so knowing that I should have probably ordered something else.

My main disappointment was the dessert. I ordered an apple crumble hoping for something warm. I specifically asked the staff if that would have been the case and got pressured that it was. Sadly it wasn’t. The apple inside was also quite tough (probably served not cooked) which despite being a choice that I don’t agree with, made it hard to be eaten with the cutlery we had been served: a spoon.

As promised the Guinness was instead delicious.

I loved that they had a sweet wine option, of which I’m always a big fan.

I wanted mussels since arriving in Dublin and heard they were great here. They were correct! I ordered a huge pot of mussels and accompaniments and it was excellent. So was the seafood chowder. The service was on point and it was a warm and comfortable place to enjoy my lunch! Check them out!

Dining here was a 5 star experience. The atmosphere was beautiful, I went with a group of 5 people and we had a table in the back on the ground floor. It was very roomy, and the table was set beautifully. The food was divine, we all shared every appetizer, I highly recommend the squid. I had the Hake for my main, which was the fish of the day, I ate every bite. The dessert tasted as good as it looked, best passion fruit so dry I have ever had! All of the staff was absolutely amazing. Myself and another person in our group has dietary restrictions/allergies, and our server took very good care of us. I will definitely be coming here again with other family and friends!!

One of the best seafood restaurants in Dublin. The place can be noisy when crowded and reservations are a must. Staff is very friendly and professional. The food is fresh and high quality very wine and liquor selection. Recommend a Connemara 12 Whiskey with Irish Oysters.

I had a mixed experience at Matt the Thresher. The venue was pleasant, and the staff were friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere. However, I was extremely disappointed with the food quality. The starter didn’t match the menu description, and the matured sirloin steak in the main course was leathery and inedible. It was not cooked as ordered and partially burnt. The wine prices felt predatory, €14 per glass of white wine, and the lack of wine lists provided for our group, coupled with exorbitant prices for all drinks, including soft drinks, added to the overall dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, the substandard food and pricing issues affected the overall enjoyment of the dining experience.
