Plume Restaurant

Overall quite satisfying. The standout dish for me was the pork belly; while the meat was tender, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of crispy skin. However, the potatoes served alongside were excellent. The tuna dish was a pleasant surprise, diffrent than what i expected but flavor profile and freshness that exceeded my expectations. The cauliflower side was ample and delicious.

The atmosphere at the restaurant was very quiet, likely due to my visit being just off-peak hours, which contributed to a relaxed dining experience.
Hard liquor menu is somewhat limited and on the pricey side. Nonetheless, given that Plume is more of a winery, I intend to return to explore their wine selection further.

In conclusion, despite some minor shortcomings, I would certainly consider revisiting Plume Restaurant.

Amazing food and amazing staff! The chef came out to chat which was so lovely. The wait staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and even washed our daughter’s bottle after she covered it in delicious pasta. Highly recommend to anyone in the area! Keep up the great work with all the smiley and warm faces 🙂

What a wonderful way to spend a sunny Saturday near Matakana. The experience started with a very warm welcome from the staff and ushered to our seat. We were walk in guests but our table was front row seats to gorgeous meadows and vines. It was a very special luncheon as my mother had lost her best friend of 70-+ yeas and we were honouring her. Could not think of a more perfect spot. The special of the day was what we both ordered and it truely was special. You could tell that the chef created this with love, care and with such creativity. Ending the luncheon with Plume take on the apple crumble was just perfect. Their own Pinot Gris was fabulous too. Can’t wait to come back with my husband to dine here again and seeing what special dish the chef has come up with! A must to visit!

The on-site dining for Plume Villas was their Plume Restaurant. Our stay was from a Saturday night to Wednesday. Having traveled close to 70% of the World to date, we are always aware of the specifics of where we are staying, as well as the immediate area. Since the hotel’s website was very specific regarding their restaurant only serving dinners on Friday and Saturday, we were aware that the only night we could have dinner on site would be following our long drive and late arrival from Napier. However, we still made reservations in advance for dinner to ensure we could try their relatively highly-rated on-site restaurant.

We confirmed the restaurant would be closed for dinner during the rest of our stay, as well as the Vineyard’s Tasting Room being closed. Staying on a wine estate for five days when its Tasting Room/Cellar Door is closed is a bummer…and a bit unusual. The gentleman who appeared to be in charge of the restaurant upon our arrival made sure we knew that they would be “closing early tomorrow” since it was Sunday. We heard him…and went elsewhere for breakfast, lunch, dinner and wine tasting…for the rest of our stay.

Although our reserved table for dinner was reasonably positioned, it was unfortunately directly next to a loud group of five persons who delayed our being able to place our orders for almost 20 minutes as they argued about what they should order. Eventually, our wines, green salads, Lettuce Wraps and Pork Bellys arrived to be enjoyed. The service, with the exception of the uninspired attitude of the apprent manager, was quite good. The food was actually very tasty. If we ever return, we would definitely choose to be seated on the perifery of their outside seating areas.

Supposedly, after years of remaining open throughout the week, the owners understandably decided during COVID-19 to limit the days they would offer dinner. Thus, we made our Saturday dinner reservation, but it would not change our disappointment that their on-site dining location would be closed the entire balance of our stay. Whether or not we knew in advance of our stay to celebrate an important birthday is not the issue.

Lovely atmosphere. Attentive Staff – the food was beautifully presented and delicious! Highly recommend for a celebration. Great to have the Chef check that we were happy with his meals. A fabulous night.
