Q39 – Midtown

In town for the weekend and Q39 was highly recommended as a top barbecue spot to try. When we arrived their were tons of people outside and standing inside also thank goodness I made a reservation and we were seated quickly. Chad was our very pleasant and attentive server who was very knowledgeable about the menu items. We settled on the pick 2 samplers and let me tell you the food did not disappoint from the brisket to the fall off the bone ribs and yummy cucumber salad I was in food heaven. I highly recommend if you are in Kansas to check this spot out!!

This is a MUST-TRY when you’re in Kansas City. The food, service, ambiance, BBQ sauces, drinks….everything is outstanding. The menu is vast and offers a fantastic selection of meats. And I love the different combinations you’re offered, i.e., 2 meats with 2 sides, 3 meats with 2 sides, 1 meat. You have to get the appetizer chicken wings which are hailed as the “world’s best wings” and I must say I agree. There are 6 wings and your choice of sauces but the restaurant will gladly give you extra sauces to try on the side. They sell the sauces and rubs as well. Their meats are so juicy, tender, perfectly cooked and I love how its the perfect amount of sauce so its not overly sweet or salty. You can add a side of mac and cheese (and top with pork belly) and the portion is HUGE so definitely share. But the pork belly is 1 of the best pork bellies I’ve ever had. Their mocktail drinks are delicious and beautifully presented. Stop reading this review and just go try for yourself. I highly recommend reservations because prime dinner time will have a line.

We went here expecting great BBQ and they delivered. We went here two times during our 3 day stay in KC. The first time we went we got the burnt ends with brisket, smoked chicken and ribs with mac and cheese and veggies for sides. Carrot cake for dessert. The carrot cake was not on the same level as the BBQ, but was still good.
Different parts of out food unfortunately came out cold three and they fixed it right away and the manager came over to let us know how they would fix it on our bill. The service was top notch and above what I was anticipating.

The second time we went for lunch time. The server was great again. The food was delicious! Highly recommend the brisket and burnt ends and the ribs! The veggies were phenomenal as well! No issues with food temp this time.

Overall, I cannot wait to get BBQ there again. It was the best we have had in the city! Flavorful, moist, juicy, while not leaving a greasy feeling in your stomach. Top notch!

I rate the atmosphere average because it would be helpful to have some sounds absorbers in the facility so the noise level isn’t so loud.

I was in town and my Lyft driver recommended this place. It did not disappoint. From the service, to the drinks, to the food I ordered, I highly recommend.

My only con was that my Mac and cheese didn’t come out hot. I sent it back and received a hot replacement. I wasn’t going to take a star off until a couple that came in after me having to send my Mac back, received their order of Mac and cheese that had to be sent back twice because they said it was cold. Definitely have to correct whatever that issue was because this was easily a 5 ⭐️ restaurant and service was top notch.

I highly recommend and will return if I’m ever in the area again.

Stopped in here for the first time.
Staff is friendly, they are very prompt.

I ordered Mr Burns which is burnt in sandwich. I didn’t care for the onion rings or whatever they are on top. I don’t think you complimented the meat. At a side of baked beans they weren’t the worst but they were okay.

My advice, if you like food that is not seasoned, I would recommend this place. Burn-ins were great. Very tender, juicy and perfect amount of fat. But literally just plain. The baked beans also had no sauce in it. And I mean no barbecue sauce. They were still good, but just plain with the beans and burn ends. After I added sauce it seemed fine.

I kept hearing about this place and how many trophies they have and everything else so I wanted to try it, it’s not a place I’ll be going back.

Very expensive.
