About this restaurants :
We treated ourselves to an overnight stay too which was 100% worth it for the breakfast alone. The rooms aren’t spectacular but if you drink enough of the fabulous wine on offer then you literally won’t even care.
The place captures the Scandi vibe very well yet remains authentic to its surroundings.
(In case you are well versed in the Scandi vibe, let me reassure you, the people are way way more friendly at Hjem. 😂 )
If you love food, or you just love new experiences then Hjem is totally worth checking out.
Our meal on Thursday evening was the best yet. Creative, delicious and memorable. Thank you Hjem!
The atmosphere was really relaxed, highly polished but not ostentatious. The staff were really friendly and were very knowledgeable of each course, how it was made, and could answer questions we had on how they were made so delicious!
Having stayed the night, breakfast the following morning was amazing, a real smorgasbord.
We would go back in a heartbeat!
From the snacks (x5) to the desserts/’Fika’ (aka petits fours) (all of which were particular high points) there were surprises and interesting flavour combinations – alongside significant use of local Northumbrian ingredients.
This level of food doesn’t come cheap and you shouldn’t expect it to… For the full experience of Tasting menu @ £150 / Wine pairing @ £100 / plus aperitif/water/coffee, you should budget on £250-275 a head plus service (@12.5%).
If you decide to stay (recommended as Wall is a small village without lots of other options) the rooms are simple and clean and priced at a level that reflects that. The breakfast was excellent – mainly continental style (again prominently featuring local ingredients), plus an interesting grain porridge (the only warm dish).
We understand that the menu and wine pairings change regularly, and certainly look forward to returning in the not too distant future to eat here again.
