Story Restaurant

This is my second time eating here. From appetizers to desserts, the food was presented nicely and tasted well. Hemingway was excellent. Great attention to detail from the front-end staff. Excellent hospitality and very rare to find in the Midwest. My only suggestion for the chef is to devise some delicious special sauces to compliment the wide array of entrees. In addition, to add an additional vegetarian option or rotate ingredients to better suit that dietary restriction. Lastly, to continually elevate presentation of the food and search for more exotic ingredients.

Update: Here are some photos of the food from my Valentine’s Date! The food was delicious but not as memorable as I had hoped. The dessert was very hard to eat. Nonetheless, we will try again in the future and the rating remains the same.

I can’t believe I hadn’t ever been to Story before this! We had a pretty early rez (5pm Sunday) so arrived with the place to ourselves, but by 7pm it was packed. And rightfully so.

The pear goat cheese salad and duck empanadas were fantastic. Dishes where you can taste every individual unique flavor (and the candied nuts are crushed small so they don’t just take over everything).

I ordered the lobster and shiitake tagliatelle as my entree and I would have licked the plate if it would have seemed appropriate. All 3 plates were so delicately done and absolutely delicious.

I really liked Brian’s entree too: beef short rib is apparently a staple on their menu and I can see why. The meat is perfection from the sauce to the tenderness. The gnocchi were a little tighter than I expected (more like spaetzle) but the perfect bite was a little of the crispy onion ring, a little of the flake-apart beef, and a mini gnocchi.

We got fries to start and demolished them, though they were just a tiny bit over salted. The aioli is the key.

I liked the lemon cake but LOVED the carrot cake with mascarpone buttercream and crunchy salty bits on top.

Pair with good cocktails and a great wine list and we were happy diners.

Delicious!!! We loved everything about our experience at Story. It was the most dreamy date night ever. The soft shell crab was the best part of my evening, 10/10 will be back again. Professional service and warm environment.

Story continues to be one of the best fine dining experiences in Kansas City. It is not easy to uphold high standards after many years, and Story is always impressive with a well curated menu that is consistently creative and always very well executed. The wine list is good with a reasonable selection but usually on the expensive side. Dessert is always excellent and the appetizers are typically the best selections.

My girlfriend and I had a great experience dining here this past week. The fried chicken (which, according to our waiter, is only available on Wednesdays) was absolutely delicious but still light. We also enjoyed the pork ravioli, lobster tagliatelle, and duck empanadas. The wait staff was very accommodating and the ambience was lovely. One of my favorite restaurants in Kansas City!
