The 1592 Restaurant

LOCATION: Hard to find on the beautiful Trinity College Campus as some other reviews noted without much clarity! Google maps location directed us to the dining hall/the Buttery and when asking students, none of them knew what we were talking about. If you’re looking at the tower in the center coming from the main entrance, it is the building on the left. Go up the steps, enter the door, and it will be up the stairs on the second floor.

FOOD: The food was outstanding and visually stunning! We tried the soup of the day (butternut squash), shrimp cocktail salad, the cod (melt in your mouth perfection), sun-dried tomato stuffed chicken (cooked perfectly!), chocolate orange cheesecake, and the creme brûlée (the thickest sugar top). For about $33/pp at the time I’m writing this for a whole 3 course meal + coffee/tea, it was SO worth it! Wine was extra.

They rotate the menu on a weekly basis, otherwise I’d try to go again while we were here. Definitely the best meal I’ve had in Ireland and severely underrated. Clientele was mostly 60+ so maybe it’s historically been a word of mouth place that hasn’t reached the viral TikTok masse. It’s one very small room and can’t handle a lot of business.

Only open during the weekdays during lunch. We stumbled upon here by happy accident with an hour ’til close, so they were able to seat two of us. If we were to go back I’d make sure to call ahead and place a reservation!

Food is great. And the location and service are excellent.

I visit annually before I head to Grafton Street to commence my Christmas shopping. Never had anything but super food, super wine, super service and a super time. Each visit puts me in the Christmas spirit.

I am involved with an association named NAPD-R – National Association of Principals & Deputy Principals. Recently (22.03.2018) we organised a lunch in the 1592 Restaurant, Trinity College. I would like to comment on the excellent lunch we had, service was of the highest standard and the Menu/Food served was absolutely of the highest quality, fine dining at its best and at a very reasonable cost. We would recommend you seek it out, this little known secret of Trinity College, Dublin

Great private place. I was a guest for a dinner held b Embassy. The food was exquisite, pairing with wine was decent. Lovely place and nice staff.
