The Chef

Visited on a Sunday morning around 9:00 and only had to wait about 15-20 minutes to be seated. I ordered the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs, hash browns and toast. The meal looked good but it just didn’t hit the spot. The chicken fried steak was greasy/mushy on the inside and the outside breading was very gritty. The eggs had no fluff or flavor. Waffle house hash browns are 10X better. Everything had a weird old grease flavor to it. The warm strawberry jam was a nice touch that I haven’t had before.

For such a popular place the food was just meh, but the service was good, no complaints there.

I had the traditional breakfast. The scrambled eggs fell apart in little chunks, you almost needed a spoon to eat them. They were not seasoned with anything and I had to add salt, which I have literally never done to eggs at a restaurant in my entire life. The hash browns were cooked crispy on one side and not even cooked on the other. The warm strawberry jelly was a nice touch, but it becomes more a dip than jelly once it is so runny. Would I eat here again? Maybe, if there were no other good options. Service was fast, as it was not busy, and the wait staff was very kind.

Maybe the best breakfast in Manhattan. Had The Grant (The Perfect Breakfast) and can’t really complain about the name. I’ve had better biscuits and gravy but the combo with fried potatoes, an over easy egg, and slice of bacon were excellently executed. They don’t take reservations and this place is quite popular so don’t be surprised by a wait. On a recent occasion our group of 12 got lucky and snagged a long table after a 15 minute wait. Worth it. Staff are delightful and seem genuinely eager to serve. Place is very cool, everyone in our party enjoyed their food, cost is not unreasonable. Highly recommended.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at “The Chef” for breakfast, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience. My wife and I opted for the Crab Cake Benedict and the Smoked Salmon Florentine Frittata, and we were blown away by the flavors and presentation.

Despite the bustling crowd, our food arrived hot and impeccably prepared. The Crab Cake Benedict was a delightful combination of succulent crab cakes, perfectly poached eggs, and rich hollandaise sauce, while the Smoked Salmon Florentine Frittata was a symphony of flavors with its fluffy texture and savory smoked salmon.

The only downside was the wait time, understandable given the restaurant’s popularity, but the exceptional quality of the food more than made up for it.

Moreover, the service was top-notch. Our waitress was attentive, ensuring our needs were met throughout the meal. Her friendly demeanor added to the overall enjoyment of our dining experience.

In conclusion, “The Chef” offers not only delicious breakfast options but also outstanding service that leaves a lasting impression. I cannot wait to return and explore more of their menu offerings. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a memorable breakfast experience.

The Chef is always a great place to take the family. I’m always impressed when a place takes time to make their own scratch gravy. Hash browns are always buttery and crispy. The thick cut bacon is just right and when you ask for it crispy, they bring it just right. We haven’t found a menu choice that disappoints yet.
