The Hunting Lodge Winery & Restaurant

What a waste of a fantastic location and setting.
The guy in charge couldn’t be less suited to a job dealing with people – so rude, unhelpful and arrogant.
Food ok. Our drinks were totally overpriced for a tiny amount of wine – although the guy behind the bar was free pouring and all 3 of us had it poured to a different level but all very little, whereas a lady at the table next to us was served by somebody different and had probably twice the amount of wine we got so it seems to be pot luck! Should either use a measuring cup or marked glasses.
Note this is for the lawn bar not the main restaurant.

Fantastic night with staff who were willing to get into the mood and help us create such a fun experience. Didn’t realise that once a month they have a lunch on the lawn experience with music and great food.. It is such a multi faceted operation with so many great experiences. Will definitely go back. Thanks to the staff, Grace and Amir for looking after us..The food was so good.. we ate far too much.. Thanks team..

We wanted somewhere to come for a day out to celebrate my 56th birthday and parents 60th wedding anniversary… ( I live in uk, we were over visiting family after 10yrs absent ).
We certainly weren’t disappointed, great venue with the historic house as the restaurant and a more Modern layout and garden for the wine tasting…. There was a selection of five different wines with two extra thrown in for good measure to start off with, all very tasty… the lady doing tasting was very knowledgeable and friendly….
We then moved across to the historic house for the afternoon lunch, Maître was very helpful and friendly (at the end of the meal he took us for a quick tour of the event centre)…
We started off with some bubbly, couple of entrees to share, the gorgeous venison as a main ( which was the showstopper ), salmon, duck confit were some of other mains and then a selection of desserts to share…. The food was very tasty as was the matching wines with the dishes overall a lovely birthday and anniversary… Definitely recommend this place and would come back with no hesitation…
The meal was approximately NZ$550 for the five of us …

We went there yesterday. The food was disgusting. Big disappointment. The pizza which my children ordered was okish but I would expect a bit more from a wood fire oven. The wagyu burger was tasteless and my haloumi wrap was cold and I didn’t feel like finishing it. We were sitting outside on a hot metal bench and the umbrellas hardly gave us any shade. I will never return. Maybe for the hot chip as they were ok.

We had a booking for the 6 course valentine’s day dinner tonight.
We had high expectations for our evening..
We arrived and 535pm. At 558pm we were offered water. By 6pm our 1st drink.
For 270.00 this was absolutely appalling. 1st course was simple and well presented. 2nd course there was some kind of shell throughout the cram and shrimp salad and the glass was quarter fill. The quality, The Taste, The presentation, the service was below average even. Three of the courses were not even touched. It was alot of money that I saved for a special evening. Not once were we asked how I meal was or each dish. We were so disheartened and overall shocked at the whole dining experience. We used to dine here offen between 2010 and 2017 and never once was let down. The combination of flavors were an epic fail. I have attached some pics..
Compared to Sovours restaurants, food, quality and service this was pretty piss poor! So was the response.
