The National Gallery Café and Restaurant

I was somewhat reluctant to go there after reading the reviews. But I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It was great that they serve hot food for lunch as well. (And not just microwaved quiches but proper hot food counter, chicken and mash, etc.) They managed to put together a vegan dish for my son as well. All staff were very friendly. No complains about coffee and pastry either. (Hint. They serve coffee in large cups, like many places in Ireland. If you like stronger coffee just watch and ask for a smaller cup.) Sure it’s not the cheapest place but with all the prices in Dublin gone up so much recently, i’d say its on par with other places in town. And it’s certainly convenient to refill your energy there while enjoying the art.

Not great for the prices. The chocolate cake was extremely dry and basic. I was quite disappointed. The tea for two is not enough for two to have two… More like 1 1/2. The tea they use was delicious, only redeeming quality.

Food was a delightful way to start the day in Dublin. Bonus is the museum above you.

Worst coffee I’ve had. Barista bored and untrained. “Cappuccino” was basically an Americano with milk. No froth.

We came there because we saw that they have a play area in the coffee place. The area for the kids is very poor not really entertaining. Also I want to order food and coffee and you literally need to order in 2 different places.
